Drawing, Building, and Weaving

As the five year old Primary students continue their exploration of three dimensional art, they are learning about mobiles and stabiles by American sculptor, Alexander Calder. Inspired by Calder’s playful, primary colors and simple shapes, students are building stabiles of their own.

Lower Elementary classes continue to hone their observational drawing skills as they work from the still life and from specimens of a variety of bugs. They are reinforcing their zoology works as they sketch the invertebrates and design insects of their own.

Upper Elementary students can decide which artwork to develop each time they come to art as three projects are currently set in motion: a weaving project inspired by South American textiles, an Op-Art drawing, and an end-of-the-year self-portrait.
