During January, our five year old Primary students created
water color, winter skies using blues, greens, and purples. They finished their
color field paintings with printed snowflakes and learned that snowflakes can
be identified with a variety of basic shapes including Hexagonal Plates,
Hexagonal Columns, Needles, and Irregular crystals.
Inspired
by Elise Engler’s journal paintings of her trip to Antarctica, Lower Elementary
students created watercolor paintings of the continent overlaid with detailed
drawings of the items they would pack for a trip to the South Pole.
Upper Elementary students explored form and used balloons as armatures to create papier mache sculptures of Antarctic penguins. These pieces are still in progress.
